Designating or pertaining to an Algonquian people formerly inhabiting part of Connecticut, or their language. M17.
Of a hairstyle: in which the head is shaved except for a strip of hair from the middle of the forehead to the back of the neck (similar to the depictions of a deer-hair topknot worn by Indian men in the novel by J. F. Cooper: see below). Cf. MOHAWK noun 3, adjective 2. M20.
b. noun. A member of the Mohegan people; the language of this people. M17.
