A productive prefix, chiefly in Science, esp. with the senses 'separate', 'away from', 'other than', as apocarpous, apocrine, apogamy. In Astronomy forming nouns denoting the point in the orbit of a body at which it is furthest from the primary about which it revolves (opp. PERI-).
