Medicine. Infection with the micro-organism Bartonella bacilliformis, endemic in parts of S. America and manifested either as an acute febrile anaemia (also called Oroya fever) or in wartlike eruptions of the skin (also called verruga peruana). Cf. CARRION'S DISEASE.
