Roman History. A body of infantry of the Roman army, ten of which made up a legion; a body of auxiliary troops or (later) of cavalry of similar strength. LME.
A similar division of any other army; a band of warriors. E16.

b. A group of people having a common statistical characteristic, esp. that of being born in the same year. M20.
