covenant noun. ME.
[Old French covenant use as noun of pres. pple (later and mod. convenant) of co(n)venir agree from Latin convenire CONVENE: see -ANT1.]
A mutual agreement between two or more people to do or refrain from doing certain acts; the undertaking of either party in such an agreement. ME.
b. A term of an agreement. LME-E17.
Law. A formal agreement or promise of legal validity; esp. in English Law, a promise or contract under seal. ME.

The matter agreed between two parties, or undertaken or promised by either; agreed wages, rent, etc. ME-M18.
In biblical translations and allusions, an engagement entered into by God with a person, nation, etc. ME.
