[French dent-de-lion, rendering medieval Latin dens leonis lion's tooth: so called from the usu. strongly-toothed leaves.]
Any of numerous composite plants constituting the genus Taraxacum, which are characteristic of grassland and have heads of bright yellow ligulate florets, stems containing a milky juice, and leaves in a basal rosette; a flower or flowering stem of this plant. Also (Austral.), Cape-weed, Cryptostemma candulaceum.
