Zoology. A crustacean of the order Decapoda, members of which have ten feet or legs, and which includes the lobster, crab, shrimp, etc. Also, a cephalopod of the sub-order Decapoda, members of which have ten tentacles, as the cuttlefish and squid. E19.

1. A black mineral substance consisting largely of the dioxide of manganese (sense 2), used from ancient times in glass-making, and now in many industrial processes. Also black manganese. L17.
2. A hard grey brittle chemical element, atomic no. 25, which is one of the transition metals and is used in steels and magnetic alloys. (Symbol Mn.) L18.
