epilogue noun & verb. LME.
[Old & mod. French epilogue from Latin epilogus from Greek epilogos, formed as EPI- + logos saying, speech: see -LOGUE. Cf. PROLOGUE.]
A. noun. Also *epilog.
1. The concluding part of a literary work; a postscript. LME.
Financial Times The epilogue..summarizes the lives of surviving children. fig.: Economist Oman's establishment of diplomatic relations with Russia is the epilogue to the Dhofar rebellion.
2. A speech or short poem addressed to the spectators by one of the actors at the end of a play. L16.
3. Rhetoric. The concluding part of a speech; a summary. Only in M17.
