A tidal opening or inlet. Now rare exc. as in sense 2. M16.
spec. The tidal mouth of a large river, where the tide meets the stream. L16.
A vapour-bath. Only in M17.
A place where liquid boils up; fig. mental turmoil. L17-E19.
Comb.: Estuary English [with ref. to the estuary of the River Thames] a type of English accent identified as spreading outwards from London and containing features of both received pronunciation and London speech.
