A. noun.
A part that widens out (now only in a vein of ore). L17.
A projecting flat rim, collar, or rib, serving esp. for strengthening, attachment, or (on a wheel) maintaining position on a rail. Also, a rim or fan standing out from the main part of a natural object. M18.
