A. noun.
A covered passageway, partly open at the side or having the roof supported by pillars; US a porch, a veranda. LME.
H. Hunter There is in the gallery of the Tuilleries, on the right as you enter the gardens, an Ionic column. W. A. Percy Well-wishers..drove him home, and deposited him..in the swing on his own front gallery.
A long narrow balcony constructed on the outside of a building, at some elevation from the ground and open at the front apart from a railing, balustrade, etc. LME.
b. Nautical. A balcony built outside the body of a ship, at the stern or the quarters. E17.
c. Architecture. A long narrow passage built into the thickness of a wall or supported on corbels, open towards the interior of a building. M18.
d. A passenger car like a basket attached to a hot-air balloon. L18-E20.
A long narrow room, sometimes one providing access to other parts of a house; a room or building devoted to the exhibition (and sale) of paintings, sculptures, etc. E16.
