giblet noun. ME.
[Old French gibelet game stew, perh. formed as GIBIER Cf. mod. French gibelotte rabbit stew, (Walloon) gible d'awe goose giblets.]
An inessential appendage. Only in ME.
A piece of offal, garbage. Only in LME.
In pl. & (now rare exc. attrib.) sing. The edible parts of a goose or other fowl, as the liver, gizzard, etc., that are removed before cooking. M16.
D. Barthelme Inside the Game Hens were the giblets in a plastic bag.
fig. In pl. Things of little value, odds and ends. Now chiefly dial. M17.
