A. noun.
A stringed musical instrument usu. consisting of a (roughly triangular) framework fitted with a series of strings of definite lengths, played by plucking with the fingers (esp. traditionally by those in heaven), now esp. in the form of a large vertical orchestral instrument resting on the floor and equipped with pedals to alter the pitch of the strings. OE.

More fully harp-seal. A light grey-brown seal with distinctive dark markings, Phoca groenlandica, of the north-west Atlantic, and the Barents and White Seas. L18.
