interlace verb. Also (earlier) enterlace. LME.
[Old French entrelacier, from entre- ENTER-1, INTER- + lacier LACE verb.]
I. verb trans.
Unite (two or more things) by interweaving strands. Chiefly fig., bind together intricately, entangle, involve. LME.
W. Cowper Close interlaced with purple cordage strong.
Cross alternately over and under each other; fig. mix by alternation. E16.
F. W. Farrar The two are inextricably interlaced. A righteous life is the result of faith, and faith is deepened by a righteous life. I. McEwan He was holding Stephen's hand, their fingers were interlaced.
