A kind of oceanic fish (perh. = lancet-fish (b) s.v. LANCET noun). rare. Only in E18.
Any marine coelenterate invertebrate of medusoid form, having a dome-shaped gelatinous body with hanging tentacles; esp. a member of the class Scyphozoa in which this form is dominant. Cf. earlier JELLY noun1 2c. M19.
b. fig. A feeble, irresolute, spineless, or sluggish person. colloq. L19.
