The astringent gum of certain tropical trees and other plants, used locally in medicine, tanning, etc.; orig. (in full African kino, GAMBIA KINO) that of a W. African leguminous tree, Pterocarpus erinaceus, now esp. (in full East Indian kino, Malabar kino) that of a related tree of India and Sri Lanka, P. marsupium. Also, any of the trees or plants which yield this gum.
Bengal kino (the gum of) the dhak tree, Butea monosperma. Jamaican kino (the gum of) the sea-grape, Coccoloba uvifera.
