I. Load.
verb trans. Put the cargo on board (a ship). Also, put a load in or on (a vehicle, a beast of burden, a person, etc.) (now only as laden ppl adjective). OE.
b. Load (a person) with gifts etc., (a tree, branch) with fruit; fill abundantly. Now only as laden ppl adjective. L15.
c. Burden, weigh down with. Now only as laden ppl adjective, burdened (with sin, sorrow, etc.). arch. M16.
verb trans. Put or place on or in something as a burden, freight, or cargo. Now only, ship (goods) as cargo. OE.
b. verb intrans. Of a ship: take on cargo. LME.
verb trans. Load or charge (a gun). Also, load (cartridges) in a gun. M-L17.
II. Draw water.
verb trans. Take up (water or other fluids) from a river, a vessel, etc., with a ladle, scoop, etc.; bale. OE.
b. verb trans. Empty by baling. obsolete exc. dial. M16.
c. verb intrans. Scoop up liquid, bale. E17.
verb trans. Of a ship: let in (water). LME-M16.
