A long rope, esp. of untanned hide, with a noose at one end now used chiefly in the western US for catching cattle and wild horses. M18.
Hist. A girth placed round a cavalry horse with a lasso or long rope attached, for use in drawing guns etc. Also lasso-harness. M19.
Comb.: lasso-cell Zoology a nematocyst or stinging cell of a coelenterate; a similar cell of a ctenophore, which with others exudes a long sticky thread; lasso-harness: see sense 2 above.
