Anglican Church. An ordained stipendiary minister, usu. appointed locally to preach regular lectures (chiefly Hist.). Formerly also = LECTOR noun 1. L16.
A person who lectures, esp. in a college or university. Now also, (the grade of) a person with an academic teaching post below the rank of professor. E17.
