longitude noun. LME.

I.
a. Length, longitudinal extent. Formerly also, tallness, height. Now chiefly joc. LME.
b. Length of time; long continuance. Now rare. E17.
II. techn. (opp. LATITUDE).
Geography. The angular distance of any place on the earth's surface, east or west of a standard meridian (e.g. that of Greenwich), measured in degrees up to 180 degrees east or west, or in units of time (1 hour = 15 degrees); distance east or west measured as the angle between two meridians. Also (esp. in Astronomy), angular distance measured from a similar line of reference, e.g. on the surface of a celestial object. LME.
galactic longitude, heliographic longitude, etc.
Astronomy. Angular distance measured eastward on the ecliptic from the vernal equinoctial point to a circle at right angles to the ecliptic through a given point. LME.
geocentric longitude, heliocentric longitude, etc.
