b. adjective. Situated in or designating the region of the loins, esp. the small of the back; of, pertaining to, or performed on or within the spinal cord in this region. M17.
lumbar puncture the insertion of a cannula into the lumbar part of the spinal cord to withdraw cerebrospinal fluid or introduce a drug.
