Any of various leguminous plants of the genus Lupinus, with palmate leaves and showy flowers in long terminal racemes; a flowering stem of such a plant. In early use, esp. the Mediterranean Lupinus albus, cultivated for its seed and for fodder; now usu., any of the ornamental kinds, with flowers in many colours, mainly derivatives and hybrids of the N. American L. polyphyllus and L. arboreus. LME.
