Physical Chemistry. Of a colloid: having an affinity for the dispersion medium, and not readily precipitated out by small quantities of electrolyte. Of a sol: containing such a phase, and generally having lower surface tension and a higher viscosity than the dispersion medium, and giving a gel on evaporation or cooling. Cf. LYOPHOBIC.
