Anatomy & Zoology. The second of the three segments of the embryonic kidney in vertebrates, which becomes the adult kidney of fishes and amphibians and survives in humans and other amniotes as the epididymis (in males) and the epoophoron (in females). Also called Wolffian body. Cf. METANEPHROS, PRONEPHROS.
