[Old & mod. French myrobolan or its source Latin myrobalanum from Greek murobalanon, from muron balsam, unguent + balanos acorn, date, ben nut.]
The astringent plumlike fruit of any of various tropical trees of the genus Terminalia (family Combretaceae), esp. T. chebula and T. bellirica, used in tanning and dyeing; a tree bearing such a fruit. LME.
