Either of two marine cephalopod molluscs: (a) (more fully pearly nautilus) an Indo-Pacific cephalopod, Nautilus pompilius, having a coiled chambered shell with nacreous septa; (b) (more fully paper nautilus) = ARGONAUT 2. Also, any fossil resembling or related to either of these; esp. a nautiloid.
