Pertaining to or characteristic of photosynthetic freshwater protists of the genus Palmella or the order or family Palmellaceae, which multiply by fission within a thick gelatinous integument; spec. designating a stage in the life cycle of various protists in which several generations are formed by fission within a gelatinous envelope.
