b. A representation of a pine cone, used for decoration. Now rare. L15.
[From its resemblance to a pine cone.] The large juicy edible fruit of a tropical American bromeliad, Ananas comosus, a collective fruit developed from a conical spike of flowers and having yellow flesh surrounded by a tough segmented skin and topped with a tuft of stiff leaves; the plant which bears this fruit. M17.
b. A bomb; a hand-grenade; a light trench mortar. Also more fully pineapple bomb. slang. E20.
