The black oak of the southern US, Quercus velutina (also quercitron oak); (more fully quercitron bark) the inner bark of this, used as a source of the dye quercitrin and in tanning.
Comb.: quercitron lake, quercitron yellow = quercitrin.
quercitrin noun the pale yellow crystalline pigment of quercitron bark, quercetin 3-rhamnoside, C21H20O11, which yields quercetin and rhamnose on hydrolysis M19.
