[Old English cweorn(e) = Old Frisian, Old Saxon quern (Dutch kweern), Old High German quirn(a), Old Norse kuern, Gothic -qairnus, from Germanic.]
A hand-mill for grinding corn, esp. one consisting of two circular stones. Also, a small hand-mill for grinding pepper etc.
