a. Grammar. Repetition of a letter, syllable, word or phrase, esp. in the formation of certain tenses of Greek and Latin verbs. Later also, a word formed by repetition of a syllable. M16.
b. gen. The action of doubling or repeating; a double, a counterpart. M17.
Logic. The repetition of a term with a limiting or defining force; the addition of some limiting term to one already used. E17-E18.
