a. The action of forcing back or driving away. LME.
b. Medicine. The action of repressing an infection, eruption, etc. Now rare or obsolete. E18.
The action of one body in repelling another by some physical force such as magnetism; the tendency for this to occur. Opp. attraction. E18.

b. transf. Tendency to separate, introduce division or difference, etc. M19.
c. Genetics. The condition of two genes when the dominant allele of one occurs on the same chromosome as the recessive allele of the other. Cf. LINKAGE 2. E20.
