A. ppl adjective. Put apart, isolated, disconnected; Math. (of two or more sets) each having no point in common with the closure of the other. M16.
b. noun. Either of a married couple who have ceased to live together, esp. after a result of judicial separation (usu. in pl.). Also, the class of separated people collectively. E18.
