Nautical.
The upward curvature or rise of the deck or bulwarks of a ship towards the bow and the stern; the curve of the upper line of a ship as shown in vertical section. Freq. with specifying word. L17.
great sheer a sheer with a small radius of curvature. little sheer a hardly noticeable rise at the bow and stern.
In full sheer-strake. The uppermost strake of the side planking or plating of a ship. M19.
