[Anglo-Norman cumfirie, Old French confi(e)re (mod. dial. confier etc.), also confierge, from medieval Latin cumfiria for Latin conferva, from confervere heal, (lit.) boil together, formed as CON- + fervere boil.]
A plant of the genus Symphytum, of the borage family; esp. S. officinale, which has rough leaves and bears drooping clusters of white or purple flowers, and was formerly much used to treat wounds.
