A soft silvery-white metallic chemical element, atomic no. 38, which is one of the alkaline earth group, whose salts impart a red colour to flame. (Symbol Sr.)
Comb.: strontium-90 a radioactive strontium isotope of mass 90 which is a product of the fission of uranium-235, harmful through being incorporated into plant and animal tissue in place of calcium, and sometimes used in radiotherapy.
