Any poisonous antigenic substance produced by or derived from micro-organisms, which causes disease when present at low concentration in the body. Also more widely, any antigenic poison or venom of plant or animal origin.
Comb.: toxin-antitoxin a mixture of a toxin and an antitoxin which is sometimes used in immunization.
