1. Botany. A much thickened underground part of a stem or rhizome (e.g. in the potato), which serves as a food reserve and bears buds from which new plants arise. Also = tuberous root s.v. TUBEROUS 2. M17.
2. Anatomy & Medicine. A rounded swelling or protuberant part in the animal body. Chiefly in mod. Latin phrs. M17.
