A semiprecious stone, usu. opaque and of a sky-blue to blue-green colour, which is a triclinic mineral consisting of a basic hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminium. Also turquoise stone (cf. Turkey stone s.v. TURKEY noun1). LME.
A fossil tooth etc. coloured blue by copper salts. Also bone turquoise. L18.
