Any of several plants credited with healing properties: esp. (a) a St John's wort, Hypericum androsaemum, with large aromatic leaves and a berry-like fruit (also called shrubby St John's wort); (b) the chaste-tree, Vitex agnus-castus, formerly confused with this.
