[Anglo-Norman wastere, wastour, from waster WASTE verb (see -ER2), coalesced with later formation on WASTE verb + -ER1.]
A person who lives in idleness and extravagance; a person who wastes resources, an extravagant spender, a squanderer, a spendthrift. Now also (colloq.), a worthless person, an idler (cf. WASTREL noun 3). LME.
