EXTINCTION OF A THING. Physics. Orig., a unit of magnetic field strength: = OERSTED. Later, a cgs unit of magnetic induction (equivalent to 104 tesla) equal to the flux density which exerts a force of one dyne per centimetre on a wire carrying one electromagnetic unit of current (ten amperes) perpendicular to the field.
