The address on a letter. rare (Shakes.). Only in L16.
A character or symbol written or printed above a letter or above the line of Writing, usu. smaller than the text characters and used as a Reference mark and in mathematical equations. E20.
b. adjective. Written or printed above a letter or above the line of Writing; esp. (of a character or symbol) written or printed above and usu. to the right of another. L19.
