1. <pathology> Large multinucleate cell formed from differentiated macrophage, responsible for breakdown of bone.

2. <dentistry> Cells which help create the sockets in bones. For example osteoclasps create the openings in your jaw bone to hold your teeth.

Seaport town (pop., 1996 est.: metro. area, 167,421), capital of Fiji.

Suva has one of the best harbours in the southern Pacific Ocean. Founded in 1849, it was made a city in 1952 and is now one of the largest urban centres in the South Pacific. It is Fiji's chief port and commercial centre and the site of educational and cultural institutions.
