Somogyi phenomenon


A rebound phenomenon of reactive hyperglycaemia following a period of relative hypoglycaemia, which may be subclinical and difficult to detect; the hyperglycaemia induces use of more insulin, thus aggravating the problem.

Synonym: posthypoglycaemic hyperglycaemia.
