Any of various blue-grey and silver gadoid fishes of shallow temperate seas, of the genus Merluccius or the family Merlucciidae, having a rather elongate body with two dorsal fins, most species being commercially fished; spec. the European M. merluccius. Also, the flesh of these as Food. ME.
