<chemical> A heparin fraction with a mean molecular weight of 4500 daltons. It is isolated from porcine mucosal heparin and used as an antithrombotic agent.

Lies between the pericardium and the vertebral column, below the level of the T4/5 intervertebral disc. It contains the descending aorta, thoracic duct, oesophagus, azygos veins, and vagus nerves.

Synonym: mediastinum posterius, postmediastinum.
