<chemical> (2s-(2 alpha,5 alpha,6 beta))-3,3-dimethyl-7-oxo-6-((phenylacetyl)amino)-4-thia-1-azabicyclo(3.2.0)heptane-2-carboxylic acid. A penicillin derivative commonly used in the form of its sodium or potassium salts in the treatment of a variety of infections. It is effective against most gram-positive bacteria and against gram-negative cocci. It has also been used as an experimental convulsant because of its actions on gaba mediated synaptic transmission.

Pharmacological action: convulsants, gaba modulators, penicillins.
