<protein> Sometimes used as synonym for lectins in general, but more usually refers to lectin from seeds of the red kidney bean Phaseolus vulgaris. Binds to oligosaccharide containing N acetyl galactosyl residues. Binds to both B and T lymphocytes, but acts as a mitogen only for T-cells.
