alkaptonuria
<biochemistry> Congenital absence of homogentisic acid oxidase, an enzyme that breaks down tyrosine and phenylalanine. Accumulation of homogentisic acid in homozygotes causes brown pigmentation of skin and eyes and damage to joints, urine blackens on standing.
